Pray and Ask

“Truly, I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

I was heartbroken. It felt like my heart was shattered to pieces. Four months ago my husband and I moved from California to Arizona. He’s a pastor and God moved him. But moving him meant moving me away from my grandchildren who were only ten minutes away. After settling in our new location, I had a sadness in my heart which I tried to ignore because it was so painful. I began praying—daily—Lord please relocate my grandchildren to Arizona. Actually, when it became apparent we would be moving, but didn’t know where, I began praying that God would move all of us together. Now, that’s tricky because my son-in-law is a pastor too and willing to go wherever God called him.

My last day with my grandchildren in California, which was the day before we would head out, I told my daughter, “God will move you to Arizona too. I know it.” She said, “If it happens, I’ll know it was God.”

Saying goodbye was brutal and painful and heart wrenching.

Once in Arizona I prayed daily that they would move to Arizona—on days I felt some doubt that it would never happen… it was more like begging. I kept praying the same prayer over and over. I just kept asking. I knew it was a “big” ask, but what’s too big for God? Nothing!

Today, my daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren are moved into their new home in Arizona—four months from the day my husband and I moved here. Four months!!

Even I was surprised at how quickly God answered. I thought it might be years, and I was willing to wait.

Maybe you have a wayward child?

Maybe you have health problems?

Maybe you have a broken relationship?

Maybe you miss someone?

Maybe you need a new job?

Maybe you need direction?

God is always listening. And God answers prayer. It’s okay to ask for the same thing over and over. Give it to Him and wait for His divine timing and perfect will. He loves you and wants what’s good for you. Do you believe that? Trust Him.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”

1 John 5:14-15
