Food and Body Image – Introducing Love and Pancakes Podcast

What’s your truth? My truth is I’ve struggled a lot through life. I’m a recovering bulimic, codependent, obsessed mom, people-pleaser, over-eater, and over-dieter. After living in bondage I learned how to live in grace. It’s an ongoing process. One thing I know for certain is that life is better being a grace-spreader instead of a fault-finder—especially when it’s been about mostly finding fault with yourself.

Two of my biggest struggles have been a battle with food and a brawl with body image. I mean, how many females, or even males, do you know who love their bodies? Maybe bodybuilders perhaps, but what I’ve found is that we all seem to have a degree of struggle with loving our bodies. Just as they are today.

This struggle has also seeped out and into my marriage. After 37 years of highs and lows with my dear husband, I’ve finally settled on, This is all I’ve got so enjoy it. It will be old and wrinkled soon so get it while it’s good. It’s been quite liberating.

This struggle has also seeped out on my daughter. While raising her I thought I kept the struggle buried and hidden. Certainly, I taught her to love her body and celebrate womanhood. Yeah, that’s what I thought…until one day she told me otherwise. I felt a giant ache in the pit of my stomach. What do I do with this? Well, you talk about it. And that’s exactly what we did.

In my first podcast I sat down with my daughter and we talked about how I took my issues with food and diets and body image and threw them at her.
