Christmas Countdown #1: Making this Christmas the Best Ever

The Thanksgiving holiday has ended and for many of us it leaves us with mixed feelings. We may feel disappointment. Disappointed over how uneventful our holiday was or how we may have acted. We may feel sadness. Sad over loved ones who are no longer with us or sadness over where our life circumstances may be currently.

Maybe it’s difficult to bring the thanks back in thanksgiving. Perhaps there was family drama over the “thankful season” and sorrow has filled your heart.

How do you begin this Christmas season and usher in all the glee and joy and happiness this holiday “should” bring?

Set your heart up for success. Each day bring back the thanks in thanksgiving. One of our Thanksgiving family traditions is that we go around our “feast” table and say one thing we are thankful for.

One of the thankful expressions was being able to rest after a hard day’s works. Another was sharing life with the love of their life. While another was unleashed opportunities.

What are you thankful for?

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

– Thessalonians 5:16-18

Can you begin each day with writing down 5 things you are thankful for?

This time of the year can be challenging, because it seems there is more to do and less time to do it in. If we know what we are truly thankful for we can then make what we are most grateful for our top priorities.

What are the top 5 things you love about Christmas?

Maybe it’s baking or shopping or decorating. Perhaps it’s time with friends or watching Christmas movies or walking and looking at Christmas lights. Maybe you love parties, or maybe you want to avoid parties and love the quiet moments listening to music. Whatever it is for you get those things on your calendar first.

Make appointments with yourself this holiday season and make them a priority and keep your appointments.

It’s okay to have a little me time during this Christmas time. Then, you’ll have more to offer others.

And make a plan. Figure out what you absolutely must get done and “put the big rocks in first.” Once it’s out of the way you can focus on enjoying the season and enjoying what you love and the people you love.
