Cheer for Him
There are lessons in life and guidance from God all around us, we just need to look and listen.
My friend, Michele, is one of the most encouraging people and an amazing cheerleader. Being around her is like a lesson on appreciating others and loving others. My husband and I were blessed to stay at her and her husband’s home while Mike officiated a wedding which was a half a day’s drive from our home.
On the day of the wedding while I was getting ready upstairs Mike (my hubby) and Michele (my dear friend) were playing darts downstairs. And yes, I wrote darts. Our friends have a dart machine in their home. As I was getting ready, at first, I thought something must be wrong because I could hear screams. When I listened in more clearly, I realized it was Michele cheering.
I heard, “Whoa! Great job!”
“You did it!”
“Wow! You are so good at this!”
“Yay!”
“Way to go!”
She was cheering for Mike.
I stopped and asked myself, “When was the last time you cheered for your husband like that?”
Truthfully, I couldn’t remember the last time. I felt a little sad. Why did it take my “cheerleader” friend for my husband to receive such encouragement? To receive cheers? To receive lavish praise?
There was a lesson here for me.
While I was happy for the fun time they were having and sincerely appreciated her kindness to Mike, I also realized I could step up my game a little with appreciating my husband better. I was appreciative for this reminder.
It didn’t take long before I found something I could genuinely appreciate and praise him for. He did a spectacular job on the wedding, and I made sure to express it to him. And we all played darts that night, and I made sure to cheer and enjoy him.
When we look for good, we find it.
When we look for guidance from God, we find it.
When we see the lessons all around us, we learn them.
When we look for what others can teach us, we learn to be better.
When was the last time you cheered for your spouse?
When was the last time you praised your husband?
When was the last time you expressed words of affirmation to your wife?
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”
-Romans 12:10
