10 Life Hacks I Wish I Knew When I Was 20
If I could go back and tell my twenty year old self a few things this is what they’d be. What would you tell yourself? See if this list of ten life hacks would match any of your own.
10 Life Hacks for the Long-haul:
1. Tomorrow you can start over.
Each day is a new start. No matter how bad your day was, count it all as joy. Tomorrow is a fresh beginning. Tough decisions, challenging disappointments, and frustrating failures the day before always look better in the morning. Don’t sweat it at 2:00 in the morning each new day brings new life.
2. It is okay to say no.
Feeling like you have to say yes will be detrimental to your wellbeing. Protect yourself with the word no and use it as often as you want to. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of things you will say yes to and you will enjoy them more because you exercised the word no.
3. Be nice to yourself.
Be kind to yourself. Treat yourself with the same level of consideration, compassion, and thoughtfulness you show others. Ask yourself daily, What do I want? What do I need? Look out for you, because if you don’t you won’t be able to care for others. And be sure to take spa days, people will like you better.
4. Some people are not going to like you.
Shocker. Some people are not going to like you, and that’s okay. Invest your time in those who do like you. Enjoy each one. And be sure to tell them how much you appreciate them.
5. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
Make those mistakes, it’s good. Make as many as you can. The more mistakes you make, the more successes you will have. In the process, if you’ve hurt another, apologize, accept responsibility, and then move on!
6. Your attitude will determine how good your life will be.
Many things are going to happen that you will not like. Many things are going to change. Many disappointments are going to come your way. Your attitude will determine your level of freedom and joy. Only you have control over your attitude.
7. Be you.
Enjoy yourself. You have a lot of years and time ahead to be with you. Don’t try to be someone else. Enjoy who you are. Like yourself. You’re one of a kind, and you’re pretty special. No matter where you go, you will always be there. Take the best version you can.
8. Begin each day anticipating what God will do and end each day thanking God for what He did.
Start off your day with acknowledging God’s grace, mercy, forgiveness, and love. Expect Him to be wherever you’re going before you get there. Look for Him in everything. Rest in His direction. Revel in His presence. And remember to thank God for all He does every day. Gratefulness keeps your heart happy and free to love.
9. You can’t have it all.
That’s right, you can’t have it all so be careful what you choose. Pour into the things that will last, like your marriage and your kids and serving others.
10. God will come through.
Know that God will come through, and guide you through every step. Like the Israelites taking stones from the Jordan river as a reminder of what God did, keep markers to remember all the times God came through for you. And always stock up on toilet paper.
